Play doh has been around since the 193o’s. The first can of play doh was a wallpaper cleaner, but then students started using Play doh and making clay models. So thats how Play doh was started. Play doh was first made in Cincinnati, Ohio U.S.
Play doh was in the markets in the mid 1950′s and they started making T.V. adds and T.V. shows about Play doh in 1957′s. In 1996 two new colors came out, gold and silver.Play doh is non toxic.
In 1972 the 500,00o,00oth can of fun came out for the 40th birthday of Play doh. Seven million Play doh fun factory’s and play sets have been sold since 1999. The inventors of Play doh were Joseph McVicker and Bill Rhodenbaugh. They have both passed away.
The current number of different colored Play doh is 50. At the time Play doh only came in one colour and one size, in off white and one and a half pound can. In 1957 three new colors came out red blue and yellow.
In 2006, Warren Brown host of the network show Sugar Rush baked a larger than life-sized celebratory birthday cake. Using more than 40 pounds of play doh. Thats a pretty BIG cake!
